In recent weeks, the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) reportedly issued a revised assessment that raised Israel's threat classification to "critical", the highest designation available. The information was disclosed by two serving US officials and one former official referenced by the broadcaster.
Officials indicated that the decision was driven by fears that Israel has intensified efforts to observe high-ranking American policymakers in order to obtain greater understanding of internal discussions within the Trump administration regarding conflicts across the Middle East.
Drawing on information from current government sources, the report stated that the DIA's evaluation contains a seven-page dossier outlining particular events that contributed to the heightened level of concern among US authorities.
The strengthened warning coincides with apparent disagreements between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the conflict involving Iran and Israeli military actions in Lebanon. These tensions reportedly included a strained telephone conversation earlier this week.
