US Plans Second Aircraft Carrier Deployment to Middle East Amid Iran Talks
Trump indicated Tuesday that he is considering the deployment, and US officials told reporters that an order could be issued within hours. While the president has not formally given the command, the Pentagon is readying the strike group to deploy, likely from the East Coast, within the next two weeks.
The USS George H.W. Bush is currently conducting training exercises off Virginia’s coast, and officials noted that these drills could be accelerated in anticipation of the deployment. The Pentagon declined to comment on the report.
This move comes as the United States has already increased its military presence in the region, including deploying the USS Abraham Lincoln from the South China Sea.
Trump met Wednesday in a private session with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Following the meeting, he wrote on his Truth Social platform: “There was nothing definitive reached other than I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue to see whether or not a deal can be consummated. If it can, I let the prime minister know that will be a preference.”
He added: “If it cannot, we will just have to see what the outcome will be. Last time Iran decided that they were better off not making a deal, and they were hit with (Operation) Midnight Hammer — That did not work well for them. Hopefully this time they will be more reasonable and responsible.”
