IAEA says Israel threats against Iran is possible to spiral
Israeli officials have not dismissed the option of launching strikes on Tehran’s nuclear sites should the current US-Iran negotiations collapse. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reportedly advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against taking military action that might jeopardize ongoing efforts to reach a nuclear agreement with Iran.
Grossi emphasized the complexity of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, pointing out that no single precision attack could dismantle the deeply fortified facilities. “The most sensitive things are half a mile underground – I have been there many times. To get there you take a spiral tunnel down, down, down,” he explained.
While Iran currently does not possess a nuclear weapon, Grossi noted, it does have the necessary materials to potentially develop one.
In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s stance that its nuclear program is peaceful and lawful. Speaking to an Egyptian broadcaster, Araghchi described any move to breach the religious prohibition against nuclear weapons, as set by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as “unthinkable.”
