SNP leader criticizes Middle East minister on lack of action

(MENAFN) An autonomous Scotland governed by the Scottish National Party (SNP) would cut diplomatic relations with Israel and shut down its embassies, the party’s Westminster leader revealed in a recent interview.

Speaking on a podcast, Stephen Flynn expressed his strong condemnation of Israel’s actions, stating, “I find it difficult to comprehend how you can deal with people who are so insistent upon killing a civilian population in the way that they are.” His comments reflect growing frustration with the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Flynn shared that he is both emotionally distressed and outraged by the situation in the region, noting that what has occurred—and continues to unfold—in Gaza deeply troubles him. He also criticized the UK government's stance on the conflict, describing it as insufficient and lacking strength over an extended period.

According to him, repeated assurances from government officials—including the Foreign Secretary and the Middle East minister—have done little to affect meaningful change. Flynn remarked that he has heard numerous pledges in Parliament about actions that would be taken.

“I’ve gone into the House of Commons on God knows how many occasions now and listened to David Lammy and Hamish Falconer, the Middle East minister, and they’ve told us how ‘we’re going to do this, or we’re going to do that, and this is the latest thing we’re going to do.’
“And then he stands up and says, ‘but they’re ignoring us.’
“Well, if they’re ignoring you, then do something that captures their attention,” Flynn said.
