Iran Signals Imminent Nuclear Agreement Ahead of U.S. Talks
The statement came via a post on the social media platform X, as Iran and the U.S. prepare for their sixth round of indirect talks aimed at resolving longstanding tensions over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
“(U.S.) President (Donald) Trump entered office saying that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. That is actually in line with our own doctrine and could become the main foundation for a deal,” he said.
Araghchi expressed optimism that the talks could quickly yield a deal. “It is clear that an agreement that can ensure the continued peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program is within reach -- and could be achieved rapidly,” he stated.
However, the Iranian minister made clear that reaching a “mutually-beneficial outcome” hinges on two key factors: “the continuation of Iran's enrichment program, under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the effective termination of (U.S.) sanctions.”
The current diplomatic track began in April, with five rounds of Omani-mediated negotiations between the two countries—three hosted in Muscat and two in Rome—focused on curbing Iran’s nuclear activity in exchange for potential U.S. sanctions relief.
Despite some progress, a major sticking point remains Washington’s insistence that Iran halt all uranium enrichment—an ultimatum Tehran continues to firmly reject.
