Trump Says Iran Involved in Gaza Talks
(MENAFN) On Monday, United States Leader Donald Trump revealed that Iran is actively participating in ongoing discussions regarding the Gaza Strip, alongside the US, Israel, and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
Speaking to reporters after returning from an event at Camp David, Trump stated, "Gaza right now is in the midst of a massive negotiation between us and Hamas and Israel and Iran actually is involved."
Trump did not provide specific details about the nature of Iran's involvement in these negotiations.
He further commented, "We'll see what's going to happen with Gaza," and added, "We want to get the hostages back. It's all I can tell you."
The US administration has put forward a 13-point plan to both Hamas and Israel.
This proposal outlines a 60-day ceasefire, the release of hostages and prisoners by both sides, and structured discussions about Gaza’s future.
Additionally, it includes provisions for Hamas to release 10 living Israeli captives and the remains of 18 others in two separate stages, according to reports from Israeli, American, and Palestinian media.
Israel, which has rejected global demands for a ceasefire, has continued its aggressive offensive in Gaza since October 2023.
This campaign has resulted in the deaths of over 54,400 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children.
Humanitarian organizations have raised alarms about the growing risk of famine among the population in the Gaza Strip.
In November of the previous year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the situation in Gaza.
